Understanding the New Labeling Requirements for Oral Contraceptives
According to the latest regulations from the Department of Health, starting from 28th June, 2025, all oral contraceptives that were previously classified as non-poisons will be reclassified as Part 2 poisons under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance (Cap. 138). This includes Bayer brands such as Yaz®, Yasmin®, and Microgynon®, which will only be available for sale at licensed pharmacies and drugstores.
These packages must include additional labeling as required by regulations to remind that medical assessment should be conducted before the first use.
